Godzilla (2014)

Godzilla (2014)Director: Gareth Edwards

Writer: Max Borenstein

(Story by Dave Callaham)

(Based on “Godzilla” Created by Toho Co. Ltd.)

I really liked this.  I think with a bad director this could have easily been a failure but Edwards has a strong style and a take on the material that I really enjoyed.  Godzilla and the action is held back through a lot of the movie, a glimpse here and there, and saved mostly for the last act.  He had a similar style with his first film, Monsters, where most of it is shot from the humans point of view instead of some magic camera swooping around doing impossible shots that is so prevalent in most modern blockbusters.  The characters are fine but not partially compelling which is definitely the weak part but they do their best with the little they are given.

Definitely one to check to in a big theater with big sound.
