J. Edgar (2011)

J. EdgarDirector: Clint Eastwood

Writer: Dustin Lance Black

I am not the biggest Eastwood fan when it comes to his latest directing jobs and this got shit on by the critics so I skipped it when it came out.  I see why it wasn’t considered great or nominated for awards or anything which is a shame because this could have been interesting.  Iit is hammy and the makeup looks pretty ridiculous at times but DiCaprio does give a good lead performance.  Armie Hammer is another story… The whole thing has a stagey feel as if we are watching a play, a format in which the makeup wouldn’t have mattered as much because we would be far away from the stage.  But it doesn’t work in this context as it makes everything seem goofier than I imagine was intended.  Under different direction, and with a little more focus in the script, I think this could have been good.
