Man of Steel (2013)

Man of Steel

Director: Zack Snyder

Writer: David S. Goyer

(Story by David S. Goyer & Christopher Nolan)

I liked it.  I hope they continue with this crew.  Snyder is a good choice for Superman.  I am aware of the last act criticisms of Un-Superman like acts and I get them but I don’t think they bothered me as much as some critics.  I would like to think that the makers are not as dumb as every online critic seems to think.  As if they wrote the ending and then didn’t have any conversations about how it would be received.  If the sequel doesn’t address the mass destruction at the end or what happens to Zod though it would leave a bit more of a bad taste in my mouth however.

A big question mark to this film though is how is Henry Cavill.  I liked him as Superman but we don’t see him as Clark Kent until the last minute of the film and I think that is a big test as to how he is, can he sell the two different personalities.  Reeve and Routh did excellent jobs at acting like two different aspects of the same person but Cavill we don’t see that at all as it is setup for the next one.

Shannon was great as Zod.  I have been a fan of him since I saw Bug, really underrated, and I really liked that they didn’t have to give him some silly villain voice that is so popular in these comic book movies to make him imposing.  Amy Adams was her always great self as Lois Lane.  I liked that they actually gave her things to do instead of just having her be the girl.

I did like the movie overall.  There are some moral issues I had towards the end but it really just creates a conversation and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.  Even at 2 1/2 hours the movie flew (LOL) by for me.

Saw this in IMAX 3D.  IMAX sound was amazing and totally the way to see it.  The 3D was completely useless as 3D usually is.
