I was really looking forward to this when it was announced. I like all the people involved and with the current political climate it seemed like a great opportunity. Unfortunately the opportunity is missed. After about a half hour the movie grows tired. The biggest issue is that they really had a chance to make a smart comedy about modern politics but instead they went super broad with it. The deepest the political humor gets is talking about politicians loving guns and Jesus. How funny. Is this the most tired joke about politics and Republican types there is? One doesn’t even need to know anything to make jokes like this. But I guess that is the idea, they want the movie to be successful. A couple of mild laughs here and there, mostly related to something bizarre happening, nothing really smart related to story or character. I still like the two leads just just wished it had been better.
Also seeing Dan Aykroyd on the big screen again just further cemented in my mind how little interest I have in those guys putting on the Ghostbusters costumes again.
