Sometimes I come home from work and it is late and I am just not really in the mood to watch a movie but I must! So I go on Netflix Instant and try to find something stupid and innocuous that I can watch and not worry about really focusing on it. Hence You Again.
Kristen Bell plays Marni a very successful Public Relations Specialist and the biggest PR firm in New York City. She is young beautiful and successful. On the eve of a huge promotion she flies home for her beloved Brother’s wedding where she will me her soon to be sister-in-law for the first time. Turns out that it is the girl who bullied her all through her geeky High School years! Also Marni’s Mom, Gail (Jamie Lee Curtis), is Ex best friends with the Bride’s Mother Ramona (Sigourney Weaver)!!!! OMG DRAMA! Betty White is also in this for some reason. She just kind of pops up every now and again, as if she wasn’t originally but then they added her during reshoots.
There is some OK kind of mean stuff in this movie, like it was a black comedy softened into a PG movie but this is still a Hollywood movie so its all pretty saccharine by the end. And like most female driven Romantic Comedies it really just features a lot of screeching and name calling. Over the years I have just been programed to realize that all women are jealous of and hate each other. I wonder if the women involved in the make of the movie just appreciate the work? Or are they thinking about it a little deeper. I know there aren’t a lot of roles going around so you take what you can get but it just makes me wonder.
Overall pretty crummy but what did you expect.
