Director: David Yates

(Based on the novel by J.K. Rowling)
The first Harry Potter movie I somehow missed seeing in theaters. I don’t know why. I have read all the books, seen all the movies, some at midnight, and this one was out for months and I just never really got motivated to go and see it in the movies. Anyway it is out now and while it is enjoyable it is probably my least favorite of the films so far. Warner decided to go the route of splitting the last book into two movies and based on this first half it didn’t really work for me. The book’s first half wasn’t terribly exciting and thus this whole film is that. Lots of hiding in the woods and discussing leading up to the big battle and most the action that will be in the next film. I did really enjoy the chase scene finale and the seemingly low fi magic effects. People aren’t shooting large laser beams and fireballs out of their wands, it is mostly a subtle effect.
Surely they could have cut some stuff and made a 3-1/2 hour finale. They managed to take all of the other gargantuan books and adapt them into suitable films. We’ll see what happens with Part 2!
