Rango (2011)

Director: Gore Verbinski

Writers: John Logan

(Story by John Logan & Gore Verbinski and James Ward Byrkit)

Saw this light night and liked it quite a bit.  The story is kind of an amalgam of different movies like Chinatown and the Western genre in general.  There really is no morale to be had, and no real emotional payoff like with say a Pixar movie but goddamn this is without a doubt one of the best looking animated movies I have ever seen.  The overall tone of the movie is very bizarre, especially for a PG Nickelodeon produced movie, featuring lots of jokes that seemed to go over the heads of the kids in the audience I was in.

I don’t know if it is one I would revisit very often but I did appreciate and enjoy it.  The movie looks amazing and whats even better is that it isn’t in 3D with picture dimming glasses.
