The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia (2009)

The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia

Director: Julien Nitzberg

There is a notorious family in West Virginia named The Whites.  There seem to be about 143 of them with no end in sight.  They are famous for drinking, doing drugs, not having heard of birth control, a dentist, or any kind of order at all but they sure do love dancing!

The Jackass people produced this documentary about the family and while taking it at face value I guess they are entertaining people but I couldn’t help but just feel bad for the kids being brought up in this environment.  It seemed like for the 1 that has dreams of a good life there were 50 of them happy to wallow in the filth and despair.

Overall there really isn’t much of a story or insight into anything.  It just kind of shows this shitty people and tries to glorify it and make it seem cool.  I don’t know if that was the point but that was the vibe I got.  That I was supposed to be amazed at this people in a positive way.  The thing just loses steam about half way through and it seems like they struggled to make it a full length film.
